About

Two cartographers, one basin.

Blue Basin Cartography is a two-person map studio on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. We're Mason Bindl and Kira Richardson, working cartographers who met making maps professionally in the Tahoe Basin and kept drawing after hours.

Every print starts the way real maps do: with terrain, water, and the built places people actually remember. Mason draws the Driftless Series, landforms of the unglaciated hill country of southwestern Wisconsin, in a style borrowed from the Prairie School. Kira works in historical cartography: terrain, color, and the look of maps from the golden age of printed atlases. The campus maps are where those two habits meet.

We sell prints of places people are from, places they studied, and the basin we live in. If you want a map of somewhere that matters to you and it isn't in the catalog yet, write to us. Commissions are how half of this catalog started.
